Calm and collected

I had my first acupuncture treatment at Angea Fertility last night. My new acupuncturist just blew me away with her knowledge and how incredibly thorough she was. She had gone through all my blood test results with a fine-toothed comb and even pointed out discrepancies which the doctors had never pointed out to me, including that I have a slightly borderline (on the low side) thyroid function, which she said could affect the speed at which my follicles develop via the thyroid receptors on my overies. But she said it was only very slightly low (though she will factor this into the treatments for me).

She promptly put me on a course of evening primrose oil and royal jelly capsules and today, has delivered a whole fertility pack with some diet recommendations and so on. She has said that our diet and exercise regime is already excellent so there is very little change required here.

She said that I have been suffering physically from all the months and months of painful emotions I have been experiencing as a result of our inability to conceive and that her goal would be to balance this out and for me to be able to find peace again. She said 'simply knowing you now have the IVF scheduled will help you to feel calmer and more trusting of everything'. She said that it will be her goal to help us conceive before IVF, but if that doesn't happen, is doesn't matter - the treatments will ensure that I am fully ready for IVF when the time comes.

At the end of the session, I felt so relaxed that I couldn't move my arms and legs and I slept like an absolute dream last night. Two people in my office today mentioned that I look extremely relaxed and that my 'skin looks amazing'!

On another note, a very new but surprisingly already dear friend of mine who is also going through the IVF process said to me today - "Life is a strange journey, it's not always as expected and we can't plan for it all. I guess that is what makes it interesting"

  1. Hi! I found you on Bodega Bliss blog. I just started my blog last month. It is nice finding someone else who is at the beginning stages of getting IF help just like me. Looking forward to reading about your journey.

  2. Oh man.... isn't acupuncture the BEST? I can't say enough nice things about mine, he just really pays attention to every little clue my body gives. I'm glad you're doing that.... wouldn't that just be the most amazing thing if you got pregnant unexpectedly before IVF? You've got so much possibility in the near future, my fingers are crossed for you!

  3. Hi ladies. Thanks so much for the messages. Acupuncture is really great if you can find someone who really gets the whole thing. I went for 6 months and then took a break but now that I've found a new acupuncturist, I'm hoping for the best! :-) Emily so nice to meet you and I look forward to following your journey.

  4. I also enjoyed acupuncture and I was with a good one who was also a homeopath and I am so glad I went.
About your thyroid: although your acupuncturist is helping you and I know the vits will help (I also used primrose oil at one stage and I keep going with the fish oils, vit c and prenatal vit) it is really worth it to go to your doctor with the blood test results. and ask if he won't put you on thyroid tablets. It really has made a huge difference to me (energy wise, and I believe it also helped me conceive). I don't know what your TSH results were but I started with 4.something which I got down to 2.something and when I conceived I was 1.5. My fertility doc said it should be ideally be below 2.

  5. Hi Heather. Thanks for your reply. Very helpful. My Euthyroid TSH level is 1.3 mIU/L. Based on what you have said, that sounds like a really good level! I am confused! xxx
