Over my 2 years TTC, I have constantly tried to 'live in the moment' as much as possible and not 'wish away' this time I have, pre-children. Hence why hubby and I have lived up our 'DINK-ness' as much as possible, constantly going on amazing camping trips, hiking trips and holidays both in Aus and abroad!
I also find that a very good way of centering myself is to write a 'grateful list' on a monthly basis. So here we go - I am grateful for:
- My dear husband (DH) who has unwaveringly stood by me throughout the last 9 years and particularly over the last 2 which have been the most stressful. For his unwavering optimism and for loving me despite my frequent moods and crazy moments of distress
- My mum, who is always there on the phone for me when I want to call her in South Africa at 1am in the morning South Africa time and rant or cry in hear very accommodating ear
- My in-laws V, D and W who are also amazingly supportive of DH and I and who are always praying for us
- My friends who have been such an amazing support to me - N, S, A, M, C, K, A, D, J, N - you know who you are!
- The fact that we can actually afford IVF and that the miracles of science exist, giving us this opportunity to conceive, where our grandparents would have had no choice in the matter at all
- The fact that the government here subsidises part of the IVF payments
- My job which keeps me busy and which is easy and well paid (if at times stressful)
- My colleagues who have been incredibly supportive
- Our beautiful little home which is our haven
- Our cat Zuri (beautiful one) who adores us without reservation
- Australia - our home for the last 3 years and 'the lucky country'
- Melbourne - our home city and the most livable city in the world!
- Our amazing lives so far and all the travel and adventures we've had
- This time that we have had in Australia, pre-children, to settle in, make friends and build the support network we need for when we do actually have children (and don't have our family with us)
